Scent Leaf

Scent Leaf is one of Nigeria’s more popular herbs. It is called Ntong in Efik  and Nchawun in Igbo. Effirin which is the Yoruba name for this herb, is commonly called Scent leaf by traders in the open markets.
To grow this herb you sprinkle the dried seed into the soil and within 2 weeks you can start to use the herb in dishes. Traditionally Scent leaf is used frequently for helping relief of stomach upsets or even constipation.The many medicinal properties is still being uncovered.
 Apart from being used for  medicinal purposes, Effirin is used in different Nigerian soups like Egusi , Black soup and Pepper soup. The aroma of this herb is similar to Basil. Usually this herb is used fresh.when dried the aroma quickly disappears. It also darkens quickly when in contact with heat
