5 Super Jollof Recipes

Jollof Recipes

The history and origins of jollof rice is still debated across West Africa. Regardless, it remains a favourite and features daily in our homes, cafeterias and social events. But if you thought there was only one way to enjoy Jollof you would be mistaken. Apart from the different ways you can make Jollof Rice, you can choose to switch the rice with other carbs giving you a whole new variety of dishes you can enjoy with your family. Try these 5 essential Jollof recipes below:

Jollof Spaghetti

Jollof Spaghetti is probably one the easier dishes to make as all you need is your pasta and leftover stew. However the key to making this dish right is to make sure the pasta is not only fully covered in the sauce but to make sure the sauce really ‘enters’ the spaghetti giving it a fuller taste. I made mine with some meat balls but you can always switch up the meats and veggies to whatever you prefer.

Couscous Jollof

With Couscous i find a lot of people are turned off cooking it because they assume it to be complicated dish but that’s far from the truth. Couscous itself takes less than 5 minutes to cook. Jollof couscous can just be as tasty as your jollof rice with the added value of using a lot less tomato. Yay! Follow the recipe to also learn how to make some spicy meatball sauce to go with your couscous

Jollof Yam

No it’s not Yam Pottage. Jollof Yam is something i came up with when faced with what i had at home at the time: yam and stew. Simple to make and tasty especially if you have some fish and seafood to combine it with.
Oven Baked Jollof Rice with Chicken Yassa
Oven baked Jollof rice produces an interesting twist to your regular jollof rice as all the ingredients are retained and the rice cooks evenly. I combined this with the Senegalese dish Chicken Yassa and it was a wonderful fusion. Watch the step-by-step video here.
Coconut Jollof Rice
Coconut Rice is a recent recipe creation in the Nigerian culinary field. The things you love about coconut rice and jollof rice are combined to give you an explosion of taste and flavour. This recipe is a must-try.
